Former WBO world flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng has been ousted in a round of sixteen bout at the Rio Olympics by France's Sofiane Oumih.
AIBA said the "two explosive boxers entered the ring with France’s Sofiane Oumiha and Thailand’s Amnat Ruenrog desperate for a Quarter-Final slot and a shot at an Olympic medal."
The report said "Ruenrog began the brighter, but Oumiha grew in confidence and after the Thai received two referee counts in the second, the bout was eventually halted midway through the third and Oumiha was through.
Former IBF flyweight world champion Amnat Ruenroeng whose only loss was a 4th round knockout by Filipino Johnreil Casimero in in an IBF rematch had a record of 17-1 with 5 knockouts as a pro was rated No. 6 by the WBO at flyweight but fought in Rio as a lightweight.
The Thai fighter was stopped in round three by 21-year-old French amateur Sofiane Oumiha in a lightweight bout.
Ruenroeng received multiple eight counts. All three professional fighters competing in the 2016 Olympics have now been defeated by amateurs early on in the tournament.
